About Kireina / Karen

I started out in birds when I was very young. For as long as I can remember we had budgies. I began breeding them and the first two born I brought with me in the car from Toowoomba to Adelaide when we moved. After a while I gave up budgies and gave them all away and I thought that was the end of it.
Then I bought a cockatiel for a pet. It was the most amazing bird, loving, friendly and it talked. Sadly this bird escaped and my life was empty without him. The room was so quiet, I had to get another bird. I saved up and got my first Sun Conure, Bappy. My friend living with me at the time bought a Lutino Indian Ringneck and things progressed from there.
I am a member of the Adelaide Bird club and focus on mainly the pet area and now have quite a few pet birds. These consist of Cockatiels, Indian Ringnecks and Sun conures. With all these pet birds I needed to keep their little beaks busy. I began importing toys from online stores overseas but the shipping costs to Australia were way too high.
Most stores here didn’t have a large enough range of toys, so I Started Feathered Finds Parrot Toys an online Australian toy store, and began making them. I have also begun looking into making other pet bird related products. My birds demolish the toys in a very short time, but this is what the toys are for and they get a lot of enjoyment out of doing so.
An introduction to the Flappy Ones

Bappy ~ my first sun conure, she's pretty quiet but the boss of all the birds if there ever was one. She seems mature and reserved, a real lady she only dips her chest in the bath water and never messes around.
Froggy ~ Froggy is the ideal pet, he's super friendly and always wants to be around me, he gets into everything and is the least fearful of new things. Hopefully one day Bappy and Froggy will make beautiful babies together.
Zek ~ Zek is a big baby inside but a tough guy outside. He's first to fend off other birds and first to jump down my top for a snuggle. He's such a cutie and he's the poster bird for Feathered Finds. I mean.. Look at that face.... |
Isis ~ The youngest of the four. Isis was bought to be a companion for Zek. She is timid and afraid of hands but i'm not going to push her with it because she puts herself away when I put the others away, rather than have me touch her which works for me. Bappy has been teaching her to say Kiss |
Kiva ~ After seeing my friends lutino Indian Ringneck I just had to have one of my own. I got Kiva from a breeder a few weeks old and hand raised him. He's a great pet, a little aloof. But he's a big mummys bird. He thinks he's a cockatiel though.. |
Growls ~ I hand raised baby growls, named so after the growling noise he made as a baby, and have pictures in the gallery of him growing up, he's a little timid but still friendly He has a sweet nature but Kiva really doesnt like him. |
Yuki ~ Queen of the ringnecks whatever she says goes. She is the most friendly ringneck I have ever seen. Has the personality of a conure. Always wanting to be around people and always flying over to play. She bites if I dont give her a toy to keep her occupied. |
The Mews ~ The mews are named after the mewing sound they made when begging for food it was so cute. Anyone hand raising ringnecks knows the sound. The pair are siblings always together. |
Chibi ~ Chibi is a cockatiel I hand raised from an egg after his mother decided she didnt know what a baby was. He's a cute little thing mimicks the calls of the ringnecks. As most cockatiels do, he loves scritches. |
